Have you ever heard a song, and got chills? Not from the voice, not from the beat, but from the lyrics? This is rare for me. It takes something special to blow me away, though what's special to me may be hogwash to you. ;)
Today's Tuesday. Tune Tuesday, Tuesday Tunes, some-other-title-that-incoporates-'tunes'-and-'Tuesday'. We can stick this with any label, but to me it isn't really about the music today. It's about the words.
Dessa. Also known as Dessa Darling. Dessa's a female rapper out of Minnesota. She's also an author, essayist, poet, and whatever other kind words you'd like to label her with. The woman has a way with words, we'll just leave it at that!
A few months back I read her short book of poems and essays, called Spiral Bound. I had liked a few of her songs, and a few of her poetry readings on Youtube, but in my mind--she was a rapper. A rapper writing a book? It seemed silly. But it wasn't silly, in any sense of the word. It was fantastic, and it wasn't until after reading it that I realized I should probably pay more attention to her lyrics, and listen to more of it.
So I thought I'd just share some of her greatness! Or what I perceive as greatness anyway.
**Explicit lyrics.

Oh this is definitely beautiful! You know what does it for me? Listen to I Was Wrong by Sleeperstar...gorgeous and haunting :) Or Meteor Shower by Owl City!
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely have to look into those!! :)
ReplyDeleteThey're not all on my list, but I want to read every book you have on your list (except for the books I've all ready read of course).
