I absolutely loved Perfect Chemistry and Rules of Attraction. Still, I was a bit nervous about the plot of this next novel in the series. I was afraid it'd be smexy bad boy meets good girl again, and it would get old. But she apparently knew that would be on our minds because this one sounds completely different. I have no doubt it'll carry that same steam Elkeles has given us in the last two novels, and I can't wait!

I was a bit disappointed with Colasanti's last novel, Something Like Fate. I'm not sure why, exactly. The storyline (girls falls for best friend's boyfriend) was just too much for me I think, and I had a hard time empathizing with any of the characters. However, I've liked all of her other novels, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one!

I've yet to read Stargazer or Hourglass. I liked Evernight, though I wasn't completely blown away with it. I am excited to see where the story takes us though. Waiting for release dates to find out what happens next is no fun sometimes! So if Afterlife is released by the time I'm even ready for it, there's no waiting involved. :)

I started reading this one a while ago when I obtained it from NetGalley, but I don't have an e-reader so I was having to read on the computer. This doesn't work for me for long, and I ended up not finishing it. It expired. Sadface. So now I'm anxiously awaiting its official release.

Rot & Ruin, by Jonathan Maberry

In the zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic America where Benny Imura lives, every teenager must find a job by the time they turn fifteen or get their rations cut in half. Benny doesn't want to apprentice as a zombie hunter with his boring older brother Tom, but he has no choice. He expects a tedious job whacking zoms for cash, but what he gets is a vocation that will teach him what it means to be human. 

I'll be honest. A year ago, I probably wouldn't have looked twice at this book, for the simple fact that I had never really cared to read about zombies. However, Feed by Myra Grant changed that for me. And now, with the summary and cover of Rot & Ruin in front of me, I must say it sounds wicked. Can't wait to get my hands on it!!

My pick for the Week:

I've only read one of the books about forensic anthropologist, Temperance Brennan. I liked it. Bones is one of my favorite shows. And now Kathy Reichs is dabbling in my preferred genre, so why wouldn't I anticipate such a thing?

Crescendo, by Becca Fitzpatrick

Since Patch isn't answering her questions and seems to be standing in her way, she has to start finding the answers on her own. Relying too heavily on the fact that she has a guardian angel puts Nora at risk again and again. But can she really count on Patch or is he hiding secrets darker than she can even imagine?

My pick for the Week:

Past Midnight, by Mara Purnhagen

Let me set the record straight. And while I'm usually roped into the behind-the-scenes work, it turns out that I haven't gone unnoticed. Something happened on my parents' research trip in Charleston—and now I'm being stalked by some truly frightening other beings. Trying to fit into a new school and keeping my parents' creepy occupation a secret from my friends—and potential boyfriends—is hard enough without having angry spirits whispering in my ear. All I ever wanted was to be normal, but with ghosts of my past and present colliding, now I just want to make it out of high school alive….

There were quite a few titles I had in mind for this week's WoW post. Today, I ran across Past Midnight on a list of upcoming YA releases, and read the sneak peak on Amazon's website. I was immediately drawn in by the writing style, and decided this is one I have to read!

My pick for the Week:

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn't think she's the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She's also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her "Duffy," she throws her Coke in his face. 

But things aren't so great at home right now. Desperate for a distraction, Bianca ends up kissing Wesley. And likes it. Eager for escape, she throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with Wesley. 

Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out that Wesley isn't such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she's falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

I'm anxious for this one for many reasons. For starters, I like the cover. I've read great reviews of the book in various places, and the book sounds fantastic. And also, I'll be honest, I'm excited to read a YA novel written by such a young author. She probably cringes when she reads things like that. I'm sure she doesn't want people reading her book just because she's young, and that isn't the only reason I want to read it, but I won't lie and say that isn't a factor that draws me to the book.

Leaving Paradise is the first novel in this series, and it's actually the only Simone Elkeles book I've yet to read. There's a reason for that. A friend of mine read the book and was very disappointed by the ending. I put off reading it because I like Simone Elkeles' books and I didn't want to be disappointed, and when I heard there would be a sequel, I decided to wait even longer. I plan to wait to read Leaving Paradise when Return to Paradise comes out, so that I can read them back to back!
